Silver Lining

We have had so much rain on the Sunshine Coast in the last four weeks it is incredible. Nearby Brisbane has already had its annual rainfall for the year, we're probably the same but I haven't checked. The mould is starting to set in and everything is getting boggy, soccer and tennis are always cancelled and it is hard to get out in the garden. On the upside however its great weather for cooking and baking and getting 'inside jobs' done, reading and watching movies. The paddocks around our house and our own grounds are looking beautiful. The grass is like thick carpet and the trees are sprouting new leaves.

Misty rain makes the hills behind our house look pretty

Too much stuff is never enough

"Good taste is all very well, but it's a little dull without an element of whimsy. I don't do rules. For me, it's all about filling each space with things you love. Coming home should brighten your mood and if you follow rules, you tend to get rooms that feel overly decorated and uptight. I want each room to feel glamorous, visually intriguing and packed so full of stuff that guests don't know where to look!" Abigail Ahern, British Interior Designer.

Wow, that's exactly how I feel. I love to see homes that show their owner's personalities, their loves and interests, something personal that gives you an insight into their lives.

I was alerted to the talents of Abigail Ahern by Australian Home Beautiful October 2011 (page 50).  I checked out her blog here and am so impressed with her style. Abigail has an incredible eye for colour, combining moody hues with wonderful textures, antiques, collectibles and modern and kitsch pieces.

It's lovely to see something so different and inspiring.

Springtime

Even though the weather's a bit gloomy it's time to lighten up and add some colour to your decor. A little spring cleaning is a good way to start. It's amazing how even just a little makes you feel so much better. Add some plants or flowers and try a new layout.

The flowers really make this room

I love this slightly crazy and 'Nana' style room.
Happy Spring Cleaning!

Drawing inspiration from books

A pile of books that was given to me by my mum makes a nice display.

A Painted House - of course

A painted house I love I thought would be appropriate for my first post. Imagine the simple pleasure of sitting on the sun lounge enjoying the view, maybe reading a book or browsing a magazine.
Not sure who I should credit this photo to as I have had it in my collection for some time but thank you. Julie
